Invest In Our Planet

Eath Day 2023 Invest In Our Planet NASA shot of Earth surrounded by ocean and flowers

Earth Day is a global celebration of our planet, its people and its diversity. It was founded in 1970 by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson to demonstrate support for environmental protection and encourage individual action to help solve pressing ecological problems. Since then, Earth Day has grown into an international event that inspires millions of people around the world to take positive action for our planet through events like cleanups or volunteer projects at local parks and nature preserves.

Earth Day is a time to reflect on our relationship with the planet, and how we can make it better. The 2023 theme is Investing in Our Planet. This year's focus is on investing in clean energy, sustainable food systems, and healthy oceans. The goal of Earth Day 2023 is to encourage people around the world to take action against climate change by adopting more environmentally friendly behaviors that reduce their carbon footprint.

As part of our ongoing commitment to invest in our planet TO112 is on a mission to make high-performance beauty more sustainable and eco-conscious. Through our formulas, our partners and with our community. Our formulas are as natural as possible with safe scientific innovations to deliver high performance results. We've reimagined popular items, like microfiber towels and scalp massaging brushes in non-toxic and biodegradable forms to keep microplastics out of our oceans. We're committed to better packaging — using recycled paper, recycled plastics, bioplastics, biodegradables, and a promise to continue to source new better and innovative solutions.

But it doesn’t stop there, here are the other ways we are investing in our planet this Earth Month and every month.

End Plastic Pollution

Plastic is everywhere. It's in our water bottles, our soda cans, and even in our cars.
But what happens to all of this plastic? Where does it go? And how can we stop it from polluting our planet? The answer is simple: we need to start recycling more and buying less plastic products.

EARTHDAY.ORG is changing human attitudes and behavior towards plastics and reducing plastic pollution. The End Plastic Pollution campaign helps people understand the impacts of plastic pollution on human and ecosystem health. It draws attention to the harmful effects of plastic in our environment and empowers people to make a difference. Our world needs to come together to curb our use of plastics. Sign the petition today

In support of ending plastic pollution TO112 has made the commitment to change all of our packaging to 100% post consumer recycled materials starting with our Shampoo for Oily Scalp & Fine Hair and Shampoo for Balanced Scalps & Normal Hair.

What is PCR? What does Post Consumer Resin mean?

Post-consumer recycled and post-consumer resin (both referred to as PCR) is content and packaging material that is made from items that consumers recycle every day, such as aluminum, cardboard boxes, paper, and plastic bottles. These materials are typically collected by local recycling programs and shipped to recycling facilities to be sorted into bales based on the material. These bales are then processed into recycled content for new packaging materials. Post-consumer resin, speaks to recycled plastics specifically. PCR packaging decreases carbon footprints, blocks light, oxygen, and other gasses from seeping into the package to extend product shelflife. It can be suitable for food-contact use when it meets the FDA guidelines. PCR packaging is better for the planet than traditional (aka virgin) plastic packaging because it reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and oceans, decreases the need for pulling virgin materials from the earth, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

Global Cleanup Initiatives

The global cleanup initiatives are an important part of the Earth Day 2023 movement. They're also a great way to get involved with your community and help make a difference in the environment. The first step is finding out what's happening in your area, then signing up for a cleanup event or volunteer at one of the many locations around the world that need assistance cleaning up trash.

How TO112 helps clean up ocean plastics

Through Eco Cart  TO112 has partnered with TONTOTON in support of their Ocean Plastics Removal initiative. TONTOTON collects and recycles low or no value plastic that is often ignored by collectors.  The project currently operates in 3 locations in Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City, Hon Son island, and Phu Quoc Island. TONTOTON’s program gives workers higher income opportunities as they get to recover all forms of plastic, instead of just previously assigned high-value materials, as well as getting additional debris out of the environment. All rescued plastics are sent to a co-processing facility to generate Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials (AFRM), preventing the possibility of them ever becoming marine litter.

Last year alone through our partnership with Eco Cart we made a positive environmental impact by offsetting 16,654 lbs of Co2 emmissions. This is equal to 19,599 trees planted, 750 light bulbs powered and 250 feet of arctic ice saved.

The Leaping Bunny Program

Investing in our planet means respecting all of Mothers Earth's living beings. And with immense respect for all things living, we vow to never test on animals. As an expression of our loyalty, TO112 is a proud member of the CCIC's Leaping Bunny Program.

Animal cruelty is a serious issue that affects millions of animals around the world each year. Many companies use animal testing to ensure their products are safe for human use, but this often comes at the cost of animal suffering. Fortunately, there are programs like the Leaping Bunny Program that help consumers identify products that are cruelty-free.

The Leaping Bunny Program is a certification program that helps consumers identify products that are free from animal testing. The program is run by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC), which is made up of eight animal protection groups. The program requires companies to meet strict criteria in order to be certified, including not testing on animals at any stage of product development, and not using ingredients that have been tested on animals.

The Leaping Bunny Program has been successful in encouraging companies to move away from animal testing. Over 1,000 companies have been certified by the program, including TO112. We all have the power to end animal cruelty by choosing to support companies that are committed to animal welfare.

How to Get Involved In Earth Month

As a consumer, there are several ways to get involved in Earth Month and help promote sustainability practices. Here are four ways to get involved:

  1. REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT: One of the easiest ways to reduce your impact on the environment is to reduce your carbon footprint. You can do this by walking or biking instead of driving, using public transportation or carpooling, and reducing your energy consumption at home by turning off lights and electronics when not in use.
  2. SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE BRANDS: Look for companies that prioritize sustainability in their products, packaging, and operations. Support brands that use recycled materials, renewable energy, and eco-friendly production processes.
  3. PRACTICE THE 3 R'S: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Reduce your waste by buying only what you need, reuse items as much as possible, and recycle what can be recycled. This can help divert waste from landfills and conserve resources.
  4. GET INVOLVED IN COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP EVENTS: Join local organizations or groups that organize community clean-up events, tree planting initiatives, and other sustainability-focused activities. Volunteering your time can help make a positive impact in your community and help raise awareness about environmental issues.

This is an exciting time for us as a sustainable brand, as we celebrate the planet and our commitment to reducing our environmental impact. Throughout the month, we will be highlighting the initiatives and practices that we have implemented to help protect the environment and reduce our carbon footprint. We will also be sharing tips and ideas on how you can make a positive impact, both as a consumer and a citizen of the planet. We believe that small actions can make a big difference, and we are committed to leading by example when it comes to sustainable practices. From using recycled materials in our packaging to partnering with like-minded organizations, we are dedicated to creating a more sustainable future. Join us this Earth Month as we celebrate the planet and encourage everyone to take action to protect it.
